The promotion is simplicity itself, but the prizes are substantial. The Beast pays out cash and tournament packages for live events like the Punta Cana Poker Classic and the Latin Series Of Poker, or for big online guaranteed tournaments.
Beast tables are marked separately in the lobby and players are awarded points for each raked hand into which they have contributed. The jackpot fee taken from each raked pot is split for the two prize funds.
At $0.10/$0.25 and higher the jackpot fee is $0.25 to feed The Beast, split $0.18 towards the Cash Race and $0.07 is to the Tournament Race.
A leaderboard tracks how everyone who has won points is doing, and prizes are distributed according to how much has been put into the jackpot. The top cash prize is capped at $20k so that the cash is spread among more participants.
In a recent interview with pokerfuse, the CEO of the Winning Poker Network, Phil Peyton announced the switch to a weekly Beast:
In February we will be changing our Beast progressive points race to a weekly format as opposed to bi-weekly. This will level the playing field for all our players allowing those with a limited time-frame the ability to compete in any one of our four monthly races.
One other reason the network can make the change is that they’ve made some major software improvements over the last year and created a much stronger network: “We’ve gotten ourselves where we have enough good things in place that we can aggressively pursue some real growth in 2014.”
Americas Cardroom continues to accept players from the USA, as does its sibling on the Winning Poker Network, Black Chip Poker. Both rooms offer the Beast promotion to their US customers.
