The 2nd Annual American Poker Awards were held last week at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles, California. The awards presentation and poker conference are presented in association with The Global Poker Index (GPI).
The awards ceremony capped off a busy day for the GPI, which earlier held the inaugural Global Poker League (GPL) draft as well.
PokerStars pro Daniel Negreanu won an award for “Moment of the Year” for his epic elimination last summer during the WSOP Main Event.
Eventual winner Joe McKeehen hit a straight on the river to bust him in 11th place, literally sending Negreanu to the floor and depriving him a spot in the “November 9”.
Americas Cardroom pro Josh Beckley took home the “Breakout Performance of the Year” award. Beckley found the spotlight with his deep run in last year’s WSOP Main Event, eventually finishing second and earning nearly $4.5 million.
Mike Sexton, the longtime World Poker Tour (WPT) broadcaster and poker pro was presented with a Lifetime Achievement award.
Mike has been a long time respected player and figure within the poker community. He’s also recently released a biography, called “Life’s a Gamble”.
This year’s American Poker Conference, Global Poker League Draft, and American Poker Awards ceremony were an absolute success.
Congratulations to the winners and all the nominees.
Mediarex Sports & Entertainment and CEO Alex Dreyfus did a great job, and have left no doubt about the strength and direction of poker throughout the US and around the world moving forward.
