Daniel Negreanu's Accounts Hacked

Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu's email and PokerStars accounts were compromised earlier this week.

Daniel Negreanu was in Melbourne, Australia through late January. He was participating in the Aussie Millions where he dropped at least $350,000 in tournament buy-ins by cashing in neither the $100,000 High Roller or the $250,000 Super High Roller events.

Things didn't get any better for Daniel when he returned to the United States, however, as upon his arrival in Los Angeles he tweeted:

@RealKidPoker: "Important: Do NOT send me any emails, the account appears to have been hacked. Just landed in LA nice news."

Daniel explained in his blog that while he was initially just worried about his email account being hacked, he soon realized the problem was more significant than that. He received a message from fellow Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis asking him "What was that all about?"

Negreanu was clueless as to what Veldhuis was referring to at first, but he quickly learned that someone had been playing - and losing - on his PokerStars account. Some of the hands played using the account seemed unorthodox coming from the world-class pro's account, so others took notice and pointed them out to Daniel.

In total, the hacker lost $61,000 during his joyride playing as "KidPoker". Unfortunately for Daniel, PokerStars' user agreement states that they are not responsible for losses caused by hacked email accounts, and thus Negreanu will have to take the hit himself.

At least "the $61,000 didn't really sting all that much" after his even bigger losses in Australia a few days before.
