Full Tilt said: “Full Tilt Poker and Tom Dwan have agreed to part ways following the recent expiration of Dwan’s contract… To have one of the most respected names in poker on our team has been a great pleasure. We will continue to watch Tom at the tables and wish him every success in the future.”
The reasons for Dwan’s apparent lack of interest are not hard to fathom. He moved to Macau to be close to the juiciest, highest stakes cash games on the planet. Rich Chinese businessmen head for Macau on “junket” trips and spend their time gambling for lots of money.
Asian Pacific Poker Tour founder Tom Hall described the wildest hand he saw at the tables:
Biggest hand I ever saw and arguably the craziest was a guy betting HK$28m (US$3.6) on the turn into a HK$51m (US$6.55) pot with a gutshot straight draw against what turned out to be top set. He was down over HK$100m (US$12.8) at the time and hit it.
Online, Dwan was famously one of the biggest losers to Viktor “Isildur1” Blom during his anonymous phase when Isildur1 played in every one of the ten largest pots in online poker history. Dwan’s live skills, and stunning early performance on High Stakes Poker, are what took him into The Professionals team.
