Since last year's World Series of Poker there has been plenty of debate about the changes made and whether they would make another appearance this year. Well, the wait is finally over. The final table delay for the main event will be back again and a $40,000 buy-in No Limit Hold'em event has been added. There will be no rebuy tournaments. And, music to everyone's ears, there will be more bracelet winning events than ever. In a nutshell, that is the highlights for the 2009 World Series of Poker schedule that was announced early today.
This year there will be 57 gold bracelets given out, two more than last year. To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the World Series of Poker, a $40,000 NL Hold'em event will be offered. Registration for the series will get under way beginning May 26th and the final table will finish up on November 10th, more than 4 months after it kicks off on July 3rd.
Another big change for 2009 is the elimination of rebuys. All four of the 2008 rebuy events have been axed though this is not the first year that the World Series did not have rebuys featured so, the speculation will continue until next year to see if they make a comeback to the line up. Another hot button issue surrounded the delay in playing the final table of the main event so it could be played "nearly live" on prime time TV. With TV ratings up more than 50 percent over the previous year, it was enough reason for Harrah's to bring it back for a second year.
The ever popular World Championship $50,000 HORSE event which is a five day tournament, will get under way June 26. The $10,000 Main Event will feature four starting days to be held on July 3-6 with play being suspended on July 15 once the final nine players are determined. The final table will then be played out November 7-10.
