NBC's Poker After Dark has become well known for featuring World Poker Tour winners, World Series of Poker bracelet holders and well known industry players. The show airs on NBC during the late night hours and is now in its fifth season. Now the network has announced the line up for the fifth season of its marquee poker series.
The 2009 broadcast schedule will include both new shows mixed with encore broadcasts of its most popular episodes from previous seasons. The January schedule will mostly be made up of those encore episodes including amateur player Paul Featherstone's "Dream Table" which features Mike Matusow, Phil Hellmuth, Mike Sexton, Jennifer Harman and Gavin Smith. The new episode for January will air on the 5th and is called "Speak Your Mind" and features Phil Hellmuth, Phil Gordon and High Stakes Poker announcer Gabe Kaplan.
February will be wrapped up during the week of the 23rd with what should be a very tense sit and go. Many World Poker Tour winners including Daniel Negreanu, Full Tilt Pro Erick Lindgren, Gus Hansen and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi should provide viewers with plenty of entertainment. March is packed with new poker action including Poker After Dark's "Big Game". Broadcast the week of March 9th, the buy in for this not to be missed round will jump to a steep $50,000. The line-up of players scheduled to appear is also not to be missed with Barry Greenstein, David Benyamine, Allen Cunningham and Phil Ivey all showing up at the felt. During the week of March 30th the "International Game" will feature David Benyamine against 2008 Player of the Year, John Phan and World Series of Poker runner up Ivan Demidov.
The most anticipated episode of this year's Poker After Dark schedule is a special cash game and roast of "The Poker Brat" Phil Hellmuth called the "Hellmuth Bash Cash Game". The episode will feature a highlight reel of the Phil Hellmuth's exploits and will air over two weeks beginning May 4th. Participating in the event will be Phil "The Unabomber" Laak, Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari, well known cash game player Kenny Tran and online phenomenon Tom "durrr" Dwan. Jabs against the 11-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner are a certainty; especially Dwan's outdraw against Hellmuth in NBC's own 2008 National Heads-up Poker Championship.
