U.S. Representative Barney Frank has been fighting back the UIGEA legislation, and Reuters reported today on Tuesday that he will unveil legislation to roll back the ban on Wednesday.
The new bill would exempt operators that are licensed and regulated from the ban enacted in 2006, Frank said. His legislation "will enable Americans to bet online and put an end to an inappropriate interference with their personal freedom."
Opposition is expected from anti-gambling Republicans who forced through the ban by midnight law making during the Bush administration. It is interesting to see how the new Obama administration will handle this case that got U.S. under fire by World Trade Organization complaints.
