Over the years the World Poker Tour has had many luxurious locations. This year is no different with Cyprus being chosen as one of the destinations for this years WPT.
WPT Merit Cyprus Classic will run from September 6th to 12th, 2009. It will offer players a selection of tournaments, with some smaller buy-in No Limit Holdem tournament's, satellites to the WPT Main Event, plus a $10,000 buy-in WPT Cyprus Championship Event which will be televised.
WPT Merit Cyprus Classic has already been described as “Poker in Paradise” because of this location being a paradise for holiday makers from all over the world. So it might not be a surprise if some of those wealthy poker players don't return after seeing the luxurious beaches and blistering sun to go with the fantastic scenery. Cyprus has been the dream destination for travellers for many years. So it's only fitting that the first WPT ever hosted in Greece has a tropical location like Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino in Cyprus.
As usual the World Poker Tour Cyprus is expecting to feature the biggest names from the poker world, with this tropical location being no different. Some of poker's big guns having already booked their flights to Cyprus WPT. Full Tilt have already confirmed that Howard Lederer, Andy Bloch, Mike Matusow and World Series of Poker bracelet winner Allen Cunningham have confirmed their participation in the $10,000 Championship Event. Other big names such as the legendary Dan Harrington and previous WPT winner Antonio Esfandiari will also be competing for the large first prize. With the Championship Event prize money expected to be in the Million's and the WPT being held in this paradise location. It won't be a surprise to see the event feature more of pokers top players confirming their seat soon.
This event will also offer two players the chance to playing in the WPT Main Event with flights included through smaller buy-in satellites. With all this on offer, WPT Merit Cyprus Classic is sure to be a great success.
