The month long deluge of tournaments in London came to an end on Monday when the EPT London Main Event crowned a champion. David Vamplew of Scotland bagged £900,000 ($1.43 million USD) for the win. He defeated Full Tilt Pro John Juanda heads-up for the title. The event attracted a UK record 848 players creating a prize pool of £4,112,800.
London has proved to be a home away from home for Juanda. Back in 2008 Juanda won the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event for £868,800. Also in 2008 Juanda finished 2nd in the £20,000 European Poker Championships high roller event for a £327,000 payday.
The heads-up battle between Vamplew and Junada was a long drawn out battle. Starting heads-up Juanda held a 4-1 chip lead. Twice Vamplew would get his stack in behind only to hit miracle cards to stay alive. He then capitalized on his fortune to take down the event. On the last hand Vamplew's A,3 held up against Juanda's K,2.
Other notables to make the final table included Kyle Bowker who finished in 3rd, Tom Marchese in 7th and Per Ummer in 8th.
