One of the biggest brick & mortar casino companies in the U.S., Foxwoods, recently announced their intentions to enter the online gaming sphere. The development arm of the whole operation, which is run by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe, has teamed up with television producers from the entertainment firm Goodson Gaming to form a new entity called Velocity Gaming.
That joint company aims to create a live TV game show and an internet gambling site that represent two halves of the same whole. The site will be able to stand alone as an interactive experience for players, but the integration with a live TV program "is what makes the venture unique," according to the president of Foxwoods Development, Gary Armentrout. The details of the game or games in question are not yet known, but Armentrout explains that Velocity Gaming intends to "cross-promote" both properties in a way that will be mutually beneficial.
Although the news of this proposed operation initially seems promising to U.S. gamblers hoping for a chance to play online at a Foxwoods-sponsored virtual casino, Armentrout explains that Velocity Gaming will stay out of the U.S. for as long as internet gambling remains unregulated within its borders. “We’re going to pursue a license or licenses in those jurisdictions where internet gaming is fully legal, regulated, and taxed,” he told Connecticut local paper The Day.
