WSOP Circuit Crowns First Ever Regional Champion

WCOP Regional Champion Jim Anderson

The WSOP Circuit stop at Horseshoe Hammond crowned the first ever Regional Champion Thursday. Wooster, OH native Jim Anderson took home the $525,449 first place prize. Anderson, a former bartender turned poker professional, beat out a tough field of 226 entrants creating a prize pool of over $2.1 million.

Anderson, who finished a respectable 242nd in this years WSOP Main Event, credited that deep run in helping him capture the victory. He beat out a very difficult and experienced final table which included Bernard Lee (3rd), Curt Kohlberg (4th), David 'Doc' Sands (5th), Shannon Shorr (6th) and Brandon Adams (7th). All nine players making the final table have earned a berth into the season ending $1 million Tournament of Champions freeroll in late May. Other notable names who cashed but fell short of the televised final table included Steve Zolotow (10th), David 'Bakes' Baker (14th) and Justin 'Boosted J' Smith (19th).

Anderson, 24, won a seat to the $10k Regional Championship by accident. He won a non-ring preliminary event earlier in the week which included a seat into the Regional Championship event, which he wasn't even aware of until he won. Quite an accident and quite a profitable week!

The next stop on the WSOP Circuit includes a non-official stop at the Emerald Casino in Gauteng, South Africa which concludes this weekend with a $5k main event. The next stateside stop is at the IP Casino, Resort & Spa in Biloxi, MS which actually began Thursday. The $1,500 main event begins Sunday, November 7th.
