Canadian Poker Network

Canadian Poker NetworkThe first “regulated poker network” in North America, the Canadian Poker Network, went online yesterday. The Canadian Poker Network is only available to residents of the province of Quebec, and is available in both English and French.

The network is a joint venture between Loto-Quebec and GTECH G2.  The client can be downloaded from their website at Espacejeux.com.

“This is a major milestone for the lottery and igaming industries,” said Paolo Personeni, president of GTECH G2. “We’re very proud to be involved with such a highly-regarded WLA (World Lottery Association) member in establishing the first regulated poker network in North America.”

The Network is offering eight poker games: No Limit Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7-Card Stud, 5-Card Stud, Five-Card Draw, Five-Card Draw 7-A and Canadian Stud.  Canadian Stud is played the same way as 5-Card Stud, except that there are two extra combinations: a four-card Flush and a four-card Straight. They also offer casino games: Blackjack, Roulette and Baccarat.

Not to be outdone by Full Tilt and PokerStars, CPN has their own pros: Benjamin Leblond and Gylbert Drolet.  Each has a dedicated table, but unlike Full Poker and PokerStars pros, they are scheduled to play at set time.  Leblond will be online every Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 to 10:00pm while Drolet will be playing Friday and Sunday from 7:00 to 10:00pm.

Poker is bound to be more popular than ever in Canada after Jonathan Duhamel brought home the World Series of Poker Main event bracelet in November.
