The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board took the unprecedented step of revoking Foxwoods' casino license for a proposed location in the South Philadelphia area. The much maligned project started four years ago when Foxwoods won the gaming license. Over those four years a number of changes to the project were proposed including the location, size and partners on the project.
The major tipping point appears to be the percentage of proceeds to be donated to local charities. The original figure given when the license was approved as 42%. The latest change provided only 2% going to charities, a far cry from original projections.
Recently Caesars Entertainment Corporation was named as new partners on the project. A future World Series of Poker Circuit event was rumored for the location. The current Circuit event now takes place at the Harrah's Chester, PA location.
The vacant license now appears to be up for grabs. The casino could now potentially be located anywhere within Pennsylvania, although it would be hard to generate as much tax revenue anywhere else within the state.
