The World Series of Golf (WSOG) announced in a press release Thursday they were holding meetings next week to expand their patented golf tournament brand to China. The company also indicated their interest in expanding their tournament offerings throughout the world.
The WSOG began in 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament format mimics the betting format of No Limit Texas Hold'Em. Over the first three years the tournament has attracted numerous celebrities and poker professionals including actor Ray Romano, Full Tilt Poker's Phil Ivey, Allen Cunningham and Chris Ferguson and Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu.
The 2009 event sponsored by Full Tilt Poker attracted 125 entrants at $10,000 per person. The tournament was won by North Carolina poker professional Jody Grarventa who pocketed $300,000 for the victory. Dates for the 2010 WSOG have not been released.
In addition to expanding their tournament offerings the WSOG announced earlier this week the acquisition of Leiweke Holding Company. The acquisition will expand the company into the sports betting information business.
