2011 Caesars Cup Captains Announced

While some thought it was an upset back in 2009 when Team Europe defeated Team Americas at the inaugural Ceasars Cup competition, it should have come as no surprise to anyone. European players are becoming more and more of a force to be reckoned with at the poker tables with every passing year.
This year, Bertrand ‘Elky’ Grospellier will captain Team Europe in its attempt to defend the title it claimed in 2009. Grospellier is coming off a superb 2011 WSOP where he won his first bracelet, and he’s already done a little cheerleading via Twitter.
Heading up Team Americas will be the Poker Brat himself, Phil Hellmuth, who’s coming off a not-so-shabby 2011 WSOP himself. While he didn’t win a bracelet this year, Hellmuth finished in 2nd place three times, all in non-NLHE events.
Hellmuth has already announced via Twitter that his first selection for his team will be Doyle Brunson. Other names he’s tossed around for the remaining three spots include Johnny Chan, Erik Seidel, Phil Ivey, Huck Seed, Daniel Negreanu, Ban Lamb, Jason Mercier and Tom Dwan.
The 2011 Caesars Cup will take place this October at the World Series of Poker Europe. Each team will bring five players to battle in a series of heads-up and partner matches.
The full teams are expected to be officially announced shortly, and ESPN will air the battle for the 2011 Caesars Cup as a part of its coverage of 2011 WSOP Europe.
