Paddy Power Making Nevada Push

By Ian Hiaring, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Paddy PowerIreland’s largest bookmaker has never offered its services in the United States, but that may soon change after Paddy Power applied for a license to manufacture and operate gambling devices in Nevada.

While this won’t directly result in Paddy Power offering online poker anytime soon in the United States, it is being considered a step in that direction. Many sources are speculating that Paddy Poker will apply for approval to run an online poker site based in Nevada if and when the legislation allows it in the United States.

Paddy Power was founded in 1998 and began offering online poker in 2005.  The company sponsors the Irish Poker Open, the second longest running NLHE tournament in the world. Their bookmaking business is known for offering controversial bets in order to gain attention, such as laying 16-1 odds that Barack Obama would not complete his first term as President of the United States.

There’s no date set for the decision on the application request, but it’s being rumored that it could be reached as early as November.
