South Point Casino Offers Free Online Poker Site

By Joss Wood, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Soutn Point PokerMichael Gaughan, owner of the South Point Casino in Las Vegas, and member of the Gambling Hall of Fame, has set up a play money poker site. SouthPointPoker.com is the website and players can compete for cash and prizes. You might ask 'Why'?

In a sense, the race is on. If online poker is legalized in the U.S. then casino owners are hoping to grab a piece of the pie. South Point is trying to get the jump on the competition and get U.S. players accustomed to their software and build a player base in advance of any legislation. "It's a way to get a head start," Gaughan announced. "It gets our name out there among the poker community for when internet poker is finally legalized."

As an incentive to get players using the site, South Point Poker is offering the opportunity to win cash prizes and $10,000 buy-ins to the 2012 WSOP Main Event. Up to $100,000 in prizes are offered every month. Prizes range from Hewlett Packard laptops and iPads to an invitation to a Halloween Party at the Playboy Mansion. It’s free to play and it’s officially not a gambling site according to the Nevada Gaming Commission, so if you’re prepared to invest some time, it’s a freeroll worth trying.

For legal reasons, residents of Oklahoma, Mississippi and Canadian residents in Quebec are not allowed to play on the site. If you are outside the US, the site automatically applies a 30% withholding tax on the value of any prizes you may win.
