If you’ve been waiting to see Gabe Kaplan in all of his three dimensional glory, you’re just plain out of luck.  The Game Show Network announced Monday that Kaplan won’t be back for the upcoming seventh season of High Stakes Poker, which will be broadcast in 3D, denying longtime Kotter fans their chance to see Kaplan like they’ve never seen him before.

Taking over the hosting duties will be comedian Norm Macdonald, who is no stranger to the poker scene. Macdonald’s been a regular on many celebrity poker tournaments, and regularly competes in the World Series of Poker.

Kaplan himself is no stranger to the poker scene, final tabling the WSOP Main Event in 1980 and making the final table of many other preliminary WSOP events over the years. His dry wit was matched with A.J. Benza’s banter for the first five seasons on High Stakes Poker.

Kara Scott, who joined the show last season, will continue to provide behind the scenes reporting and interviews with the players.

A New Dimension for Televised Poker

For the first time in history, poker will be broadcast in 3D, as The Game Show Network also announced that the seventh season of High Stakes Poker will take advantage of the latest in television technology. The 3D version of the program will air on DirecTV’s n3D channel, which is the world’s first 24 hour 3D television channel.

High Stakes Poker Season 7

Poker in 3D??? Yes, you read that right. You’ll now be so immersed in the poker experience that it will seem as if the losses are coming directly your own bankroll. Watching a million dollar bad beat will never be the same after you experience it in 3D to be sure.

As we reported last December, Team Full Tilt pros will not participate this season due to a sponsorship agreement between HSP and PokerStars, but the lineup contains plenty of names that will be recognizable, including Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, Antonio Esfandiari, and Phil Laak.

Taping took place last December at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, and the seventh season of High Stakes Poker will debut Saturday, February 26th at 8:00pm EST on The Game Show Network.

No word yet on whether or not Gabe Kaplan will try and sign a deal with another 3D television show in order to allow his longtime followers to see him in three dimensions once and for all.
