Hellmuth Hints at ESPN Announcing Gig

By Ian Hiaring, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Phil Hellmuch ESPN AnnouncerPhil Hellmuth is certainly one of poker’s more polarizing figures. There’s no doubt that the self-proclaimed “Poker Brat” likes to promote himself, and he’s become poker’s most hated…or loved player, depending upon who you talk to.

During a break at the L.A. Poker Classic Sunday night, Hellmuth chatted with Tournament Director Matt Savage in a video that Savage uploaded to YouTube, and dropped hints that he may be in the running to become a poker commentator on ESPN as well as being named a competitor for the next season of ABC’s popular Dancing With the Stars.

Hellmuth posted a vague tweet regarding a potential DWTS appearance back in December, but it appears that ballroom dancing isn’t in the cards for the World Series of Poker Champion as ABC announced the DWTS lineup on Monday, and Hellmuth’s name was nowhere to be found.

Regarding the possible ESPN announcing job, Hellmuth stated that there’s “nothing I can announce yet…” when posed with the question from Savage.

During the interview, Hellmuth also answered a question about which online poker site he may sign with now that he’s no longer affiliated with UB.

“I will say this for those at home that are expecting me to sign a quick deal, it’s not gonna happen. I think that I won’t sign until April.” stated Hellmuth.
