Nevada Might Win the Online Poker Race

By Ian Hairing, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Online Poker RegulationAcross the United States, there have been bills brought before state legislators that have had the intent of bringing not only online poker, but online gaming as a whole into legality.

A new bill introduced in Nevada has narrowed the scope to online poker. Bill 258 is on the table in the Nevada legislature, and would allow agreements between land-based casinos and online poker providers.

The bill received approval from the Nevada State Gaming Control Board, and states that potential licenses can’t be denied to operators “solely because the operator….operates, operated or was associated with, in interstate or foreign commerce and while licensed by another jurisdiction.”

To put this into relevant terms, it means that casinos in Las Vegas would be free to negotiate with off-shore gaming providers to have an online poker presence.

It’s quite clear that the bill is clearing the way for online poker to become a legal reality for Nevada residents.

The race to be the first state to have legal and regulated online poker is heating up, and Nevada certainly wants to hit the finish line in first place.
