Even though the European Poker Tour’s Grand Final is taking place outside of Monte Carlo for the first time in its seven year existence, the play is proving to be just as exciting in Madrid. No player is safe from an early exit, even world champions.
With Days 1A and 1B in the books, some of the notable players already knocked out of the six day event include Team PokerStars Pros Joe Cada, Chris Moneymaker, Jonathan Duhamel, Viktor Blom, Bertrand Grospellier, Joe Hachem and Vanessa Rousso.
A total of 686 players entered the Grand Final and first place is worth a whopping €1.5 million. Day 2 will begin with 299 players remaining in the field and the chip-leader is Norwegian teenager Ole-Kristian Nergard, who’s chipstack is just a couple thousand shy of 200K.
You may have noticed Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier’s name in the list of notable bustouts above. Well, before you start feeling too bad for the Frenchman, you should know that ElkY took down the High Roller event at EPT Madrid just a day earlier, taking home €525,000 in the process. The €25K buy-in event drew 58 players and boasted a total prize pool of €1,435,500.
Here’s the top ten as play enters day 2 in the EPT Season 7 Grand Final:
Ole-Kristian Nergard Norway 198200
