Live Poker Isn't Dead Yet

By Scott Carlson, Rakeback.com Poker News Senior Writer

With three major tournament series all running at the same time this week, it was going to be interesting to see what the player numbers looked like. I think it's safe to say that the death of live poker isn't happening any time soon.

European Poker Tour – San Remo

The EPT stop in San Remo, Italy had a very impressive turnout of 987 players. Although down from 1,240 players last year, which was won by Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree, the player turnout is certainly nothing to sneeze at. The €5,000+300 buy-in will generate a first place prize of €930,000. The final table is scheduled for Tuesday, May 3.

World Poker Tour – Seminole Hard Rock Showdown

WPT Royal Flush GirlsThe first major $10,000 buy-in event held in Florida drew a field of 433 players. The Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in Hollywood, Florida is the only event on the WPT Season IX schedule that is open to 18-20 year olds. The WPT stop prior to this one was held in Indiana and drew a paltry 97 players. Better weather and the Royal Flush Girls in bikinis playing volleyball may have contributed to the increased player turnout. The final table is scheduled for Monday, May 2 will guarantee $1,122,340 to the winner.

World Series of Poker Circuit – Caesars Las Vegas

Probably the event helped most by Black Friday was the WSOP-C event held at Caesars Las Vegas this week. All of the online grinders that make Sin City home need something to do before the WSOP starts in just under a month. The $1,500 Main Event drew a field of 496 players.

When the dust settled on day 3 after an amazingly short 2:40 final table, Chris Johnson took down the title, $153,599 and a seat at the $1 million Tournament of Champions.
