With the start of the 42nd annual World Series of Poker a mere two weeks away, Rakeback.com wants to get you ready for all of the madness. Over the next two weeks we will bring you a multi-part series on getting you prepared for your trip out to the desert.
In Volume One today we will discuss all of the other tournament series happening throughout Las Vegas during the WSOP. Whether you are looking for smaller fields, cheaper buy-ins or different games, there is something for everyone.
The quarterly Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza will run for the 11th time May 27 – July 15. Buy-ins range from $340 - $5,000 and most tournaments are No Limit Hold'em. One unique event on the schedule is a $550 Position Poker event with $5K added to the prize pool on June 15. The game features two buttons, one for normal blind designations and one for the winner of the previous pot. Win the pot and gain the button position for the next hand.
The fifth version of the Binions Poker Classic takes place this year from May 30 – July 11. Buy-ins range from $100 to $1,000. The series includes a number of non-NLHE events including Omaha, Stud and HORSE. As the original home of the WSOP, players can check, call and raise where the greats of the game once played.
The Grand Poker Series at the Golden Nugget runs from June 4 – July 4. Buy-ins range from $100 - $1,080. If you want to play something other than No Limit Hold'em, then the Golden Nugget will be your home away from home. Featuring two tournaments every day there is something on the schedule for everyone.
On the 4th of July the Golden Nugget hosts the Suzie and Howard Lederer World Series of BBQ. You can see the likes of Tom Dwan and Gavin Smith belting out their favorite karaoke tunes. Maybe this year you can even see a Department of Justice raid. You never know.
Last year marked the first time the WSOP threw their hat into the ring with daily deep-stacked tournaments. Running at 2pm ($235), 6pm ($185) and 10pm ($135) from May 30 – July 16, the events are sure to draw huge fields and create large prize pools. These events don't award bracelets but the likely five figure score for winning should soften the blow.
