Epic Poker League Inks Television Deal

By Matt Kaufman, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Epic Poker ReagueFormerly known as the "Federated Sports + Gaming Professional Poker League" and recently shortened to the less descriptive (and less annoying to say aloud) "Epic Poker League," has finally announced a television deal.

CBS Sports will be airing seven hours of original content, and a new network by Discovery Communications called the "Velocity Network" will air thirteen more hours and reruns of the first seven.

Founded by professional poker player Annie Duke and former World Series of Poker commissioner Jeffrey Pollack, the goal of the Epic Poker League is to provide tournaments for the world's best poker players. Membership to the league is gained through meeting specific criteria based on a player's tournament results.

The league was heavily counting on an impressive television deal because it will be key for them to make money (the tournaments will be rake-free), and they certainly landed one.

Epic Poker television coverage will be hosted by sports anchor Pat O'Brien and poker commentator Ali Nejad. It will be produced by 441 Productions, the company behind most of ESPN's World Series of Poker coverage over the last decade.

The league's first tournament is scheduled for August 5th and air dates will be made available before the summer is over. We'll make sure to let you know when they become available.
