Kid Poker Jumps Back Online

By Nathan Carroll, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Daniel NegreanuThe heightened enforcement of online gambling regulations in the U.S. has forced many players onto smaller sites like Cake Poker or DoylesRoom. Team PokerStars pros living in the U.S. found themselves in a bind.

How can you be sponsored by a site that won't allow you to play?

For the Canadian poker superstar and Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu the solution was easy, head back home. After spending a few relaxing weeks traveling, and apparently finding a new girlfriend, Negreanu has settled in his native city of Toronto and jumped back into the action on PokerStars.

He reports on his blog that he's been playing $25/$50 Pot Limit Omaha. It hasn't gone well. He lost a buy-in within his first 5 hands and he's down around $12,000 overall according to online databases. But he's happy to be back in the fray and expects to be active in the PLO games in the next few months, when he can find the time. Throughout the rest of 2011 Daniel plans to visit Barcelona, Montenegro, Budapest, London, Cannes and San Remo, playing tournaments along the way.

In his blog Negreanu also sticks in a jab at the nanny-ish policies of the U.S. with regards to gambling. He writes, "During the Cold War, the 'Big, Bad, Communist U.S.S.R.' was seen as an oppressive regime, while the U.S.A. represented freedom. Who woulda thunk, that to enjoy the freedom of playing poker online you'd have to move away from Los Angeles and and head to Moscow."

Negreanu's ultimate view of the situation, however, is more pragmatic than critical. As he explains, poker has always been about adaptation: you adapt to your opponents, you adapt by learning new games types, and now you adapt through physical relocation. Kid Poker urges online pros who find themselves cut off from their source of income to take the leap into foreign living. "There are tons and tons of games across the globe to choose from."
