More Fallout from Jose Macedo Cheating Scandal

By Ian Hiaring, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Lock Poker and Jose Macedo Part WaysThe story surrounding the recent admitted cheating by Portugese player Jose ‘Girah’ Macedo continues to unfold as more details become available.

It should come as no surprise that Lock Poker has officially dropped Macedo from their roster of professional players. After winning a heated bidding war earlier this year, Lock Poker was able to ink Macedo to a sponsorship deal. With the details of Macedo’s scam to bilk fellow high stakes cash game players out of over $30K now revealed, Lock Poker made the impending divorce between the admitted cheater and their company official in a statement from CEO/Owner Jennifer Larson:

“All of us at Lock are horrified and incredibly disappointed by Jose’s actions. Within 10 minutes of finding out about the fraudulent behavior his LockPRO contract was terminated and his account was banned permanently” says Jennifer Larson Owner/CEO “At Lock our philosophy is based on building a deep relationship with our players and at the core of this is trust, legitimacy and loyalty. Jose’s has defrauded the players, the art of poker and the basic human relationship. LockPRO is a strong team of great people and will continue to find like minded, trust worthy, passionate players who will make us proud to be in this industry.”

In related news, Haseeb Qureshi admitted that he played on Macedo’s account earlier in the year that resulted in a disqualification from the “Lock Poker Challenge”. Qureshi has been dismissed from the CardRunners team as a result

With so many black clouds hanging over Macedo’s head these days, it should also come as no surprise that his association with PokerStrategy.com has come to an end as well.

While we find it refreshing that Macedo owned up to the scam by admitting that he was involved in some less than savory behavior, the punishment should remain swift and severe. Cheating has been, and always will be unacceptable in the world of poker, particularly with the entire online poker industry under scrutiny as efforts are being made to legalize and regulate the game in many jurisdictions around the globe.
