2012 World Series of Poker Begins
By Matt Kaufman, Rakeback.com Poker News Editor
It’s that time of year again. Thousands of poker players will congregate at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas over the next several weeks to participate in the 2012 World Series of Poker (it’s not too late to win your way there!).
This year’s series consists of 63 events and kicked off yesterday with Event #1, a $500 Casino Employees’ tournament which was won by Chiab Saechao for $70,859.
On top of tons of cash, all of the event winners will take home gold WSOP bracelets to commemorate their accomplishments. Find out a bit more about the bracelets:
Two big names still in Event #2 are Vanessa Selbst and JP Kelly. The $1,500 No Limit Hold’em tournament has just 15 of 2101 entrants remaining and will play down to a final table tomorrow at 1pm Vegas time.
After skipping last year’s WSOP, Phil Ivey is already in attendance, busting Event #2 in a hand against Maria Ho. Seeing him play a low buy-in, large field $1,500 event suggests he has bracelet bets again this year and we can expect to see him play the full schedule.
This year the WSOP will stream 60 final tables live online with commentary – here’s the full programming schedule for your viewing pleasure.
As event results come in we’ll be sure to keep you informed of them, and likewise we’ll be on the lookout for the most interesting WSOP stories we can find. Check back all WSOP long at Rakeback.com.
