Nevada Finalizes Gaming Regulations

By Matt Kaufman, Rakeback.com Poker News Editor

Nevada took a major step towards government-regulated intrastate online gambling on Thursday, when the Nevada Gaming Commission approved a set of rules that will regulate online gaming within the state.

One of the most interesting aspects of the rules is that all technological testing will be outsourced, and by extension the state's technology division will have a smaller role in regulating online gaming than had been previously anticipated. There will be competition between companies wishing to acquire contracts to perform this testing.

Presumably, many companies which test and regulate existing online gambling sites across the world will apply for the ability to do the same within Nevada. At least Gaming Laboratories International and BMM Compliance have already done so.

Looking ahead, the first meeting of the state's Gaming Policy Committee is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at 10am local time.

Progress towards the implementation of casino-run online gaming in Nevada has been rapidly taking place over the past several months, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Hopefully Nevada can set a precedent for other states, and soon the "land of the free" won't be a misnomer.
