Poker started out a primarily American game, but it has since expanded to grab the attention of card players all around the world. As such, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) is making efforts to expand its reach around the world as well.
The WSOP currently holds 2 annual bracelet-awarding events - one in Las Vegas and the WSOPE in a European location (Cannes, France last year). The expansion to Europe has been successful over the last few years, and in 2013 another expansion will take place to the Crown Casino in Melbourne, Australia.
The Crown Casino is already well-known to poker fans for being home of the Aussie Millions, perhaps the most prominent poker event in the Southern Hemisphere.
The new event will be known as the World Series of Poker Asia-Pacific, or the WSOP-APAC. It will take place from April 4th, 2013 through April 15th, 2013.
The events are expected to be globally televised by ESPN, and a complete schedule of tournaments will likely be announced later this year.
Satellites for WSOP-APAC tournaments will surely run as the event gets closer, but for now you can still try and win a seat to the 2012 WSOP in Las Vegas via one of our partner poker rooms.
