Antonio Esfandiari is a very high-profile poker player, and thus is known for a lot of things. Many people know about his 2 WPT victories, his now-cancelled TV show "I Bet You", or simply from his antics while playing poker on various poker television.
One thing he's not known for is being the all-time poker tournament earnings leader, but that is about to change.
The Big One For One Drop - a $1 million buy-in World Series of Poker (it's not quite too late to qualify for the Main Event!) - has taken place over the last few days. $111,111 of each buy-in went to One Drop, a charity started by Guy Laliberte to help bring clearn water to poor areas of the world.
A 48-player cap was set when the event was announced, and ultimately it filled up. The field consisted of roughly two thirds poker pros and one third wealthy businessmen.
After 3 days of play, the final table consisted of 4 poker pros and 4 businessmen. The results of the table were as follows:
This victory allows Antonio Esfandiari to leapfrog Erik Seidel to enter 1st place on the all-time poker tournament earnings list with over $23.2 million. Additionally, he has won his second WSOP bracelet, and thus enters a rare club of players with 2 WPT wins and 2 WSOP wins.
Esfandiari is quite well-liked by his peers and fans alike, so it's not difficult to venture a guess that it will be good for poker when this final table is televised by ESPN. We can only imagine what type of celebration Esfandiari and his friends are currently having.
