The WSOP Main Event Final Table is Set

July 17th, 2012 | 8:03 pm

After nearly two months in Las Vegas, the World Series of Poker is finally over for the summer. That means that 9 players have reached the coveted Main Event final table.

The 2012 World Series of Poker consisted of 61 events and collected a total prize pool of over $222 million. Today, 60 of those events have been completed and the Main Event is down to just 9 players.

The Main Event final table has been called the "November Nine" for the past several years because the final table had played out in November. This year the table will continue in October, so the "October Nine" are:

• Jesse Sylvia (43,875,000 chips)
• Andras Korokanai (29,375,000 chips)
• Greg Merson (28,725,000 chips)
• Russell Thomas (24,800,000 chips)
• Steven Gee (16,860,000 chips)
• Michael Esposito (16,260,000 chips)
• Robert Salaburu (15,155,000 chips)
• Jacob Balsiger (13,115,000 chips)
• Jeremy Ausmus (9,805,000 chips)

Those lucky 9 players will earn between $754,798 for 9th place and $8,527,982 for 1st. On top of that, the Main Event champion will no doubt receive lots of additional income over the course of his career from sponsorship deals with online poker rooms.

Many believed that the best thing that could happen at this year's Main Event would be a female final tablist, and we came amazingly close to that happening. The final table bubble was occupied by not one but TWO female players - Gaelle Baumann in 10th and Elisabeth Hille in 11th.

Each woman received $590,442 for their efforts, but it's easy to specualte that the non-poker media would have been drawn to the event quite a bit more if either of them actually made the final 9. On top of that, it is being reported that Hille received a sponsorship from Betfair Poker.
