888poker Team Pro Jackie Glazier Wins First WSOPE Bracelet in Paris

Glazier is no stranger to deep runs, but until now she has always missed the prize. In 2012, she managed second in the WSOP $3k event and tucked away $459k. This year was her third cash at the WSOP Main Event and earned her another $221k.888poker Jackie Glazier

The WSOP Europe saw 65 players turn out for the Ladies event. PokerStars Team Pro Liv Boeree made a good run but bust in 12th when her short stack shove with Ac-3c ran into a pair of kings. The astrophysicist probably consoled herself with a good cigar.

Glazier famously folded a pair of kings pre-flop in this year’s WSOP. Her intuition proved to be correct as her opponent showed aces.

The field merged into a ten seat final table, and when there were eight left, the ladies attempted to do a deal to pay €200 each to the eighth place bubble girl. The only hold out was Jackie Glazier.

That decision is worth thinking about.

In the late stages of tournaments, fold equity becomes critically important. Every hand has a chance of winning the pot--hand equity--but every player can make bets that will cause their opponent to fold a certain percentage of the time--fold equity.

PokerStars Liv BoereeGreat players can identify how much fold equity they have against their opponents. Some will fold a lot of the time, preferring not to risk their tournament life, and some will call with relatively weak cards, taking the chance of chipping up and having a better shot at winning the tournament.

In refusing to concede even €200, Jackie was making a statement that she was in it to win it, all of it. The decision to hold out against the peer pressure of the other female players, may have helped give her a table image that shouted her intention to call light and not be pressured into folding.

She was already the big stack, having around 30% of the chips in play after hitting quad threes a few hands earlier. After rejecting the deal, she could now put pressure on weaker stacks with more credibility that if they played back at her, she would respond aggressively.

888poker lured her away from Phil Ivey’s team of pros on social gaming site IveyPoker. They will be pleased they did.
