WSOP Player of the Year PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu Tweets His Final Results for 2013

Daniel won the first WSOP Player of the Year award in 2004, and he is justifiably proud of the fact that nine years later he has managed to keep up with the young kids and internet phenoms who have taken the game to a new level.

His winnings for the year are revealing:

Just shy of $2m - a figure which must surely be less than half his total income when cash games and sponsorship income are taken into account.

Daniel turns 40 in 2014, but his claims to being an “old man” in the poker world ring hollow compared to his friend Doyle Brunson - who, at 80, is more than double Daniel’s age and still a force to be reckoned with at the tables.

On the other hand, Daniel will be disappointed to not win the Global Poker Index Player of the Year award too. As of today, 21 year old Oleg Schemion, has overtaken Daniel and will take down the title.

The “young kid, internet phenom” that is Oleg “wizowiz” Schemion finished fifth in the PokerStars European Poker Tour Main Event in Prague. Not only did the finish push Daniel off the top, but it brought Schemion’s live tournament winnings to over $3m.

Remarkably, Schemion managed to do all this while being too young to play in this year’s WSOP.
