Annie Duke and Jeffrey Pollack Launch New Poker League

By Ian Hiaring, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Annie Duke Poker PlayerWith tours scattered all over the globe, and professional poker players’ personal interests scattered all over the map, Annie Duke and Jeffrey Pollack have announced the launch of a new professional poker players league that is expected to bring a true poker tour feel to it.

The yet unnamed league promises to fill a void missing in the poker world today…the chance to guarantee matchups between the best poker players in the world in a series that will be exclusive to the top poker professionals of the day.

Pollack, who was at the helm of the World Series of Poker throughout most of the boomtime of the last seven years, has founded a new company, Federated Sports + Gaming, and has Annie Duke on board to attempt to unify poker professionals around the world into a PGA-like tour that would include all top professionals.

No television deal has been announced, but it’s worth noting that ESPN ran a news story on this collaboration Tuesday morning that appeared on its main front page, sandwiched between the latest NFL and NBA news.

Duke, who has cashed 38 times in The World Series of Poker, will serve as commissioner for the league, and has stated that she has no plans to play in the league.  “This is something that I really wanted to see happen for a very long time,” Duke said. “And if my sacrifice is to give up playing full time, then that’s my sacrifice and I’m OK that.”

Membership in the league will be limited to the top professionals, but the qualification to take part is somewhat vague at the moment, but it’s rumored that the formula for membership qualification will be made public, but it’s expected to be favorable for television-friendly pros.
