Main Event Runner Up Racener Charged With DUI

This year’s main event runner up, John Racener, has found himself in a spot of trouble down in his hometown of South Tampa, Florida. On Saturday, December 11th, Racener got nabbed by the local authorities and charged with a DUI. The kicker: it’s his third. His first was in 2005–when he was still under the legal drinking age–and his second was in 2007. He was also arrested last year on a misdemeanor battery charge.
For this latest crime Racener was tossed in the Hillsborough County jail with a bail of $1,000 (apparently the judge didn’t realize what a high roller he was dealing with). His friend and manager Jeff Gigante has likely paid for his release by now, and a trial will be set for a later date.
Racener has put together an impressive poker career at just 24 years of age. Even before earning $5.5 million for his main event finish this year, he had earned well over $1 million in live tournament cashes. It’s clear he’s got skills; let’s just hope he can get his vices under control before hurting himself or others.
