WSOP Announces Two New Circuit Event Stops

The long awaited announcement of the last two WSOP Circuit stops was announced Tuesday. The first stop will be at the Palm Beach Kennel Club in West Palm Beach, FL from February 17th to March 1st. The second stop announced will be in the Philadelphia area at Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack in Chester, PA from April 28th to May 9th. Both markets opened up within the past year with laws allowing higher limits (Florida) and table games (Pennsylvania) in the states.
It was no secret that the WSOP was looking to have a Circuit event in Florida. WSOP Circuit Tournament Director Jimmy Sommerfeld posted on the Two Plus Two forums earlier this year potential dates and locations for an event in Florida. As it turns out his “guess” was spot on.
The Palm Beach Kennel Club offers a 60 table room with a possible expansion for more tables when the Circuit comes to town. Top pros to make Florida a temporary home lately include Full Tilt‘s Mike Matusow and Gavin Smith. Add in three of the November 9 members including Michael Mizrachi, John Racener and John Dolan, one can expect a loaded field for the main event. All of this will probably pale in comparison to the cash games that will run around the event.
With law changes in August allowing table games in Pennsylvania, WSOP officials wasted no time in adding an event to the Philadelphia area. No longer will Philly residents have to drive to Atlantic City to get their WSOP Circuit tournament fix. Harrah’s Chester boasts a 25 table poker room. Convention space adding another 50 tables is expected to be used during the Circuit event. Additionally, the Circuit event coincides with the dates of the Kentucky Derby. Expect a massive field for the events.
