World Poker Blogger Tour Set to Invade Las Vegas
By Scott Carlson, Rakeback.com Senior Writer
In a little under three weeks the World Poker Blogger Tour (WPBT) will descend upon Las Vegas for the annual Winter Gathering. What is the WPBT? As the name suggests it is a group of poker bloggers and poker reporters. At the center of the weekend is the WPBT Winter Classic 2010.
The WPBT Winter Classic this year will be held at the Aria Poker Room. The $120 event takes place on Saturday, December 11th at Noon. Along with the usual prizepool, the good folks at PokerStars have offered up an additional $4,500 in prizes in three different ways.
- Luckbox Last Longer III – Groups of three compete in the team competition for $3,000. Teams will add their finish positions together and the lowest number wins. The first place team will split the $1,500 first place prize, second place receives $900 and third place receives $600.
- PokerStars WPBT O.G Headhunter – $100 bounties will be placed on 10 players heads. The 10 players were all present at the inaugural WPBT Winter Gathering back in 2004.
- Hammer Challenge – If you play the hammer (7,2) and win with it after the flop you earn $50. The first 10 hammers thrown in the tournament will win $50.
Another tradition of the WPBT is that everyone brings a bounty prize. Knock a player out and you earn their bounty prize. The prize can be (and has been) anything under the sun.
The tournament is just a small part of the Winter Gathering. Thursday night tradition has everyone meeting at the Geisha Bar at the Imperial Palace for a little SoCo and some drunken Pai Gow. Friday morning has been a golf outing the last two years followed by a trip to the Pinball Hall of Fame. Friday evening is always reserved for mixed games at the MGM Grand. Sunday is NFL action. Last year the action was watched from a Luxury Box at Legasse’s Stadium in the Palazzo.
If you are in town come check out all of the action. Who knows what kind of shenanigans will go down this year.
