Borgata Releases Details of 4th Annual Winter Poker Open
When the World Poker Tour announced that it was removing the World Poker Open at the Borgata from its schedule in November due to low attendance numbers, the future of the event was uncertain. Removing all doubt, the Borgata has announced the long awaited details of the 4th Annual Winter Poker Open.
The tournament, lasting 17 days, is set to begin January 13, 2009 and the event will wrap up with the spectacular Borgata Championship Event January 25-29. The Winter Poker Open is following closely after the Borgata’s successful Poker Open in September where the largest guaranteed prize pool ever offered by a casino-hotel. Not to be outdone, the Winter Poker Open is boasting a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million in this year’s Championship event.
“This year’s Winter Poker Open will offer a broad range of events to appeal to our customers, and for the first time in a seasonal event, Borgata will offer players a guaranteed prize pool of $2 million in the Championship Event. We are confident that our 2009 WPO will attract both loyal and new players, and continue to position Borgata as the preeminent destination for poker on the East Coast.” said Ray Stefanelli, Director of Poker Marketing for Borgata.
The Championship Event which is spread over five days features two starting days with a $3,000 buy in + $200 entry and an incredible 50,000 in starting chips. This year, Borgata is offering a mixed bag of events with something to interest everyone. From Deep Stack tournaments, Omaha High and Pot Limit tournaments to Ladies Limit, H.O.S.E. and Senior events, there will be 46 separate events to choose from.
Players can get ahead of the action by reserving their seats online for Main Events from January 1-6. On-site registration for all events kicks off Friday, January 10, 2009 and is open until January 28.
