Last month, Jeffrey Pollack and Annie Duke announced the creation of a new poker league exclusively for professional poker players. Not many details were available at the time, but new information is now becoming available regarding the league, which has yet to be named.
Late last week, Federated Sports + Gaming announced the inaugural tournament schedule for the league. The season opens in August, and will conclude next January with the Championship Event. All tournaments will be held at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.
Event #1 August 12-19
Event #2 September 30 – October 7
Event #3 December 1-10
Event #4 January 20-27
Championship January 29-30
With the exception of the Championship, each event will consist of a pro-am and charity event that will precede the Main Event. The Main Event will carry a buy-in of $20,000, and will be rake-free.
The four Main Events preceding the Championship will each have a different format, including 6-max play, heads-up play, and a multi-format tournament.
The Championship event will be a million dollar freeroll, and will consist of the top 27 players in league standings.
Information hasn’t been made available regarding exactly how a player will earn their league card, but players who don’t have a league card will have chances to qualify for each of the four Main Events via the pro-am tournaments. The top nine finishers in each $1500 pro-am event will be awarded temporary league cards that will earn them entry into the Main Event for that particular event.
The league is expecting approximately 200 players for each Main Event according to a press release from Federated Sports + Gaming and so far there hasn’t been any mention of a television broadcast for any of the events.
