JC Tran Dominates the Party Poker Premier League III
JC Tran kicked off the final table as the chip leader by dominating the preliminary rounds. He was the points leader after Day 1 and kept that advantage through the week, winding up with an impressive 45 points. The second qualifier to the final table was Peter Eastgate with 39 points and closely followed by Juha Helppi with 34 points. Tom Dwan and Tony G tied for the fourth qualifying spot though Dwan got the automatic bid based on his performance in the heats. Tony G was heads up against Vicky Coren, winning two out of three matches to earn his final table seat. Battling it out for the last remaining final table seat was Annette Obrestad and Roland de Wolfe where de Wolfe won two out of three.
The final table saw plenty of early action as Tom Dwan and Tony G battled it out during the fifth hand. Dwan lost the hand to Tony G, leaving him short stacked and doubling Tony G’s chips. Despite the loss, Dwan hung on as Peter Eastgate was the first to be eliminated from the final table, earning $30,000 and sixth place. Next on the chopping block was Roland de Wolfe in fifth place and earning $40,000. Dwan quickly followed suit, falling to Tony G and earning himself fourth place and $50,000. The next player also falling victim to Tony G was Helppi who took home $80,000 and third place for his efforts.
Tran took over the chip lead with blinds at 20,000/40,000 during heads up play. Both players put all their chips in with a 7h 6h 5d board. Tony G held Ks 8d for a straight draw and an over card but Tran had him dominated with his 9c 7d top pair. Tony G’s fate was sealed when the turn and river showed Jc and 2s.
