Jennifer Tilly Quits Poker as Pro and goes back to Acting
Jennifer Tilly has been in the spotlight for over twenty years on and off the screen. The last few years she has been playing poker as a professional. On her latest article in Bluff magazine she explains her reasons for resuming her acting career.”I’m going back to my real career of attending premieres and playing the third lead in B-movies. The door to Hollywood is still cracked open a sliver.” Commenting on her latest feelings towards playing poker ”I love poker but greatness in poker is an elusive dream. There are too many variants. Trying to find validation in poker is like trying to find a virgin in a whorehouse. I’m not giving up poker entirely — gambling is an addiction after all. I’m just going to treat it more like a hobby and less like a career.”
She was born 1958 in Harbor City, California. She grew up in British Columbia, Canada after her mother Patricia divorced Jennifer’s Chinese American father Harry. After moving around with the family the at the age of 17 she began theater studies in St. Stephen’s College in Missouri. A few years later Jennifer got her acting career started with small parts in “Days of Our Lives” and “Hill Street Blues” in 1984; the Oscar nominee for the 1994 film “Bullets Over Broadway” was married to The Simpsons producer Sam Simon in 1984, divorced in 1991 and later on started dating a well known poker professional Phil “The Unabomber” Laak.
Gorgeous Jennifer Tilly broke the ice for all Hollywood celebrities when she won the World Series of Poker bracelet in the Ladies’ No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em Event in 1995 coming on top of over 600 players and took home over $150 000. Tilly has also played in a good number of other major poker tournaments and TV-formats over the last decade.
