Manny Pacquiao Has His Own APT Event

There’s no hotter name in boxing these days than Manny Pacquiao. Not only is he a current welterweight champion, he’s a congressman in his homeland of the Phillippines, a singer and an actor, but we’ll just call him one of the greatest boxers of our time for now.
Pacquiao is also an avid poker player, and now he’ll be lending his name to his very own Asian Poker Tour event. The Manny Pacquiao World Poker Event will take place December 7-12 at the Pan Pacific Hotel’s Asia Poker Sports Club in Malate, Philippines. The tournament, pending approval from Philippine authorities, will be an official APT accredited event.
The event will feature a high-rollers tournament, a PLO event and a Main Event that sports a buy-in of 50,000 Philippine Pesos ($1,150 USD).
Pacquiao is a legend in his homeland, and this move certainly is a boon for the Asian Poker Tour. The APT has been growing since its inception in 2008, and Pacquiao’s name should do nothing but foster the popularity of poker in Southeast Asia.
