Poker Photographer Jay Newnum Charged With Stealing From Foxwoods Dealers
The case was publicized by Billy Shea, president of the union representing Foxwoods Dealers. He posted the facts of the case on Facebook: “He was caught just before Christmas after video coverage was reviewed and subsequently arrested and charged with the crime of theft after he confessed to the crime,”
Since then Billy has been criticized for using social media to distribute news of Newnum’s crime. He has made a typically robust defense to his critics:
I was elected to this position not to lie down and cater to anyone or any pressure placed upon me. I will never compromise the integrity of our members or union but I will fight for what is right and this overall issue is so wrong in many different ways.
Newnum applied for Accelerated Pretrial Rehabilitation, a scheme that enables first offenders to avoid jail. Billy Shea has expressed his anger that the offense is being treated so lightly given that Newnum is a well known poker personality.
