Pollack / Duke League Announces Players

By Ian Hiaring, Rakeback.com Poker News Staff Writer

Federated Sports & Gaming Poker League LogoFederated Sports + Gaming announced the lineup for its inaugural season of play this week. The fledgling league also revealed the criteria for qualification for membership.

The entire list of 218 qualifiers can be found here. As you would expect, most of the big names in professional poker made the list.

Initially there will be four types of qualifiers, and the data used for the criteria was provided by The Hendon Mob.

5-Year Card (27 qualifiers)

  • At least $4.0 million in adjusted lifetime earnings, with the single largest win capped at $2.0 million
  • At least 3 major lifetime titles
  • At least 9 cashes since January 1, 2008, for a total of at least $600,000 won

3-Year Card (55 qualifiers)

  • At least $2.5 million in adjusted lifetime earnings, with the single largest win capped at $1.5 million
  • At least 1 major lifetime title
  • At least 9 cashes since January 1, 2008, for a total of at least $500,000 won

2-Year Card Category A (36 qualifiers)

  • At least $2 million in adjusted lifetime earnings, with the single largest win capped at $1 million
  • At least 1 major lifetime title
  • At least 6 cashes since January 1, 2008, for a total of at least $300,000 won

2-Year Card Category B (100 qualifiers)

  • At least $1.25 million in adjusted lifetime earnings, with the single largest win capped at $750,000
  • At least 9 cashes since January 1, 2008, for a total of $600,000 won

It’s clear that the criteria were created to reward players who’ve displayed at least a bit of sustained success on the big buy-in tournament circuit. One-hit wonders such as recent WSOP Main Event champions Jamie Gold and Jerry Yang failed to make the cut.

League commissioner Annie Duke qualified for a 2-year Category A membership but will not be competing due to her title of Commissioner.

It’s possible that the membership list will be expanded before the start of the league as players may still qualify based on performance in qualifying tournaments through August 1st.

Aside from the nine temporary, single-event cards that will be awarded in the pro-am events prior to each Main Event, there will be no exemptions of any kind for players not making the membership list.

The unnamed league, operated by Jeffrey Pollack’s company Federated Sports + Gaming will hold all events at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Event #1 slated to start August 5th.
