Seidel to Face Chan in WSOP Rematch

In early April, the World Series of Poker announced that they would be holding a series of three special heads-up rematches. The first two rematches were already set, with Chris Moneymaker facing Sammy Farha in a rematch of the 2003 Main Event. Two WSOP legends are slated in the second rematch, as Johnny Chan and Phil Hellmuth will sit down and go head to head with their 21 WSOP bracelets in tow.
The third rematch was determined by an internet fan vote, and Wednesday via the official WSOP Twitter feed, the results were announced. Erik Seidel will meet Johnny Chan in a rematch of their heads-up battle from 1988 which Chan ultimately won.
It’s not that Seidel needs to do anything to validate himself as one of the best in the game. He’s currently on a heater that nothing short of remarkable, notching several wins in high-roller events and taking down the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. In fact, Seidel has booked over $5.5 million in winnings in 2011 alone.
No, it’s the Rounders monkey that Seidel will be looking to get off his back this time around. Footage of Chan defeating Seidel in the 1988 WSOP Main Event was shown…and shown…and shown again in the film Rounders, which has become one of the most beloved movies on the topic of poker.
Both Chan and Seidel still need to confirm their participation in WSOP Heads-Up Rematches. The rematch would take place during the World Series of Poker on June 2nd at the Rio in Las Vegas, and will be aired on ESPN at a later date.
