World Poker Tour heads down South
The World Poker Tour didn’t wait long to get into the swing of things in 2009. While most people are still shaking off hangovers from New Years celebrations, the folks from the WPT are gearing up for the Southern poker Championship. Taking place at the Beau Rivage Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi the tournaments will feature a series of events leading up the Main Event in a few weeks.
This event will something for everyone – the first tournament offers a low buy in of only $300 and many events are under $1,000. The Main Event takes place on January 14th and is almost certain to serve up at least a million dollar payday to the winner but of course, the entry fee is steep at $10,000. No worries though, you can qualify for the Main Event nightly. To keep all of the remaining No Limit grinders happy, there’s also a nightly $175+$25 tournament starting at 7PM. Expect to see fields of approximately 200-300 in these nightly events.
Speaking with Ken Lambert, who is the Director of Poker Operations at the Beau, he stated: “We’re going to be the center of the poker universe in what will be the first major poker tournament of 2009. Whatever poker games our players want to play for whatever limits, we are going to offer it at Beau Rivage. Ask anyone of the thousands of players who made us an annual destination and they will tell you the poker action here is perhaps the best in the world.”
This event is sure to attract the many poker players within driving distance as well as players wishing to kick off 2009 ASAP that are hopping on planes as we speak.
