Qualifier Wins WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star

The final table of the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event was a star-studded affair. WPT commentator and Party Poker spokesperson Mike Sexton, Vivek Rajkumar and Full Tilt Poker Pro Mike Matusow all made the final table, but it was an unknown who walked away with the title.
Alan Sternberg won his entry into the event via a satellite and turned it into $1,036,000. Sternberg entered the final table second in chips but would take a brutal hit to his stack early. When play was down to four-handed he doubled-up Vivek Rajkumar when his flopped set lost to a higher turned set (and rivered quads). After the hand Sternberg was the short stack at the table but he battled back.
In the end after a nearly 12 hour, 235 hand final table Sternberg took out second place finisher Steven Kelly when his 10s-8s rivered trips against Kelly’s As-Qc and flopped top pair. Final results were as follows:
- 1st – Alan Sternberg – $1,039,000
- 2nd – Steven Kelly – $595,300
- 3rd – Mike Matusow – $369,800
- 4th – Vivek Rajkumar – $295,800
- 5th – Casey McCarrell – $221,800
- 6th – Mike Sexton – $148,000
With Mike Sexton at the final table all eyes were on who would sit in the commentary booth along side Vince Van Patten. The Raw Deal Host Tony ‘Bond18’ Dunst would fill in for Sexton. It will be interesting to watch the episode when it airs to see how he fared.
