WSOP Main Event Prize Pool Just Under $60m

By , Rakeback.com Executive Editor

The final Day 1 of the WSOP main Event drew the biggest field in the event’s history -3,467- and its completion means that the prize money on offer has now been published.

The final table payouts will be:

  • 1st       $ 8,359,531
  • 2nd      $ 5,173,170
  • 3rd       $ 3,727,023
  • 4th       $ 2,791,983
  • 5th       $ 2,106,526
  • 6th       $ 1,600,792
  • 7th       $ 1,225,224
  • 8th       $ 944,593
  • 9th       $ 733,224

The final tally of entrants to the most important annual event in poker were 6,352 giving a total prize pool of $59,708,800. That’s the lowest turnout since 2005 when Joe Hachem took the title, the lowest prize pool since 2005–and it’s still almost $60m.

There’s no other event that even comes close in turns of prize money. The one thing that the WSOP Main Event always guarantees is the someone will win life changing money at the end. That means that the tension, the sheer excitement of the final table, will transcend the game of poker itself and become a human spectacle of the first magnitude.

The money bubble will break when there are 648 players left, all of whom will win a minimum of $19.1k. Thereafter the payouts escalate rapidly. The top 72 finishers are guaranteed over $100k each.

Going on previous averages, the final table will be a fascinating mixture of players the majority should be 26 year old Americans all of whom learned their skills playing online poker. But there will be wild cards, the amateur who kept winning flips, the live pro making the limelight and representing the old guard, and perhaps this year will see the return of a female face at the final table.

In 2012 Steve Gee was the first to leave the centre stage of the final table, pocketing over $750k for his performance. At the time of writing, he’s sat in 14th place in this year’s event, with a 300k chip stack. Could the story of 2013 be back to back final tables, something thought to be almost impossible with modern day field sizes?

The most interesting average statistic about the last few years final tables is that most of those sitting around the green baize will have got their ticket to glory from an online satellite. And this year seven of them will stand up as WSOP millionaires.
