WSOP Update: Six New Bracelets & a Star-Packed Final Table

By , Rakeback.com Poker News Editor

Since our last WSOP update in which we discussed that Phil Ivey leads the Player of the Year race, several new bracelets have been awarded at the 2012 World Series of Poker (make sure to qualify to go before it’s too late!).

The lucky winners over the last few days are:

• Event #23 – $3,000 NLHE 6-Max – Simon Charette for $567,624
• Event #24 – $5,000 Omaha Hi/Lo – Joe Cassidy for $294,777
• Event #25 – $1,500 LHE Shootout – Brian Meinders for $116,118
• Event #26 – $3,000 PLO – Austin Scott for $361,797
• Event #27 – $1,500 HORSE – Ylon Schwartz for $267,081
• Event #28 – $2,500 NLHE 4-Max – Timothy Adams for $392,476

In addition to the winners, a few noteworthy performances by well-known players include Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier reaching the final table in Event #23 but finishing in 6th place, Brett Richey finishing 2nd in Event #26, and David Chiu just missing his 5th WSOP bracelet by finishing 2nd in Event #27.

The final table for Event #24, a $5,000 buy-in Omaha Hi/Lo tournament, was full of top players including Mike Matusow (out in 8th), Phil Ivey (3rd), and Scotty Nguyen who couldn’t quite secure his 6th WSOP bracelet and finished in 2nd place to poker pro Joe Cassidy (shown above with his father). High-limit mixed games specialist Cassidy was behind the handle Nizot Skizared back in the heyday of online poker.

The event we recommend you keep an eye on today (you can watch the final table at the live streaming section of WSOP.com) is Event #30, a $1,500 NL 2-7 Single Draw tournament. The 7-handed final table includes Brandon Cantu, Michael Mizrachi, Erick Lindgren, and Andrew Lichtenberger. Even if you don’t currently know how to play, the game is easy to follow and understand fairly quickly.
