Zynga Eyes Real-Money Gaming
By Matt Kaufman, Rakeback.com Poker News Editor
Zynga is the largest developer of social network gaming applications for sites like Facebook and MySpace. One of its most successful applications is Zynga Poker, the world’s largest play-money poker site, boasting over 30 million unique users monthly.
Rumors about the possibility for Zynga to enter the real-money online poker market have run rampant for many months, but this week a spokesperson for the company finally confirmed that Zynga is actively pursuing partners in the iGaming industry.
The spokesperson told All Things D, “We know from listening to our players that there’s an interest in the real-money gambling market. We’re in active conversations with potential partners to better understand and explore this new opportunity.”
Following the legal development that the Department of Justice no longer believes that the Wire Act applies to online poker, the race is on for companies interested in taking advantage of the imminent US market to make moves quickly.
It should be interesting to see which company Zynga ends up partnering with (and it’s certainly fun to speculate), and Rakeback.com will be sure to follow this story closely as it develops.
